Who runs the DDC?The DDC is a shared operation of the British Atmospheric Data Centre (BADC) in the United Kingdom; the World Data Center Climate at the Max-Planck-Institute for Meteorology (WDCC / MPI-M) in Hamburg, Germany; and the Socioeconomic Data and Applications Center (SEDAC) operated by the Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN) at Columbia University, New York, USA. Each of these institutions has voluntarily taken on responsibility for managing access to a subset of the data and information provided by the DDC. The funding for the DDC has been provided by the German Government through the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF); by the UK Government through the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA); and by the US Government through National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The DDC is advised and guided by the IPCC Task Group on Data and Scenario Support for Impact and Climate Analysis (TGICA), chaired by Dr Richard Moss. Both the DDC and the TGICA are supported by the IPCC Technical Support Units of both Working Group I and Working Group II, through whom they are accountable to the IPCC. The contact details of the relevant personnel are as follows: IPCC DDC Managers:
Guidance MaterialThe preparation of the guidance material and documentation for the scenarios will be coordinated by Dr.Timothy Carter of the Finnish Environment Institute, Helsinki, in close co-operation with the DDC. It will include descriptions of the GCM experiments, discussion of the uncertainties of climate scenarios, guidance on their application in impacts studies, and suggestions on the reporting of research results.
